‘Granny-Cam’ Initiative Draws Support

Families of nursing home patients would be able to keep an eye on their relatives – and the care they get – under a bill that has been submitted to Arkansas legislators. The so-called "granny cam" bill is being pushed by advocates for nursing home patients, who gathered at the state Capitol on Monday for a news conference.

The measure called the proposed Willie Mae Ryan Act would aim to place cameras in the rooms of nursing home residents at the discretion of family members who may have an interest in watching how their relatives are being cared for at facilities across the state. The monitoring device would be supplied by the family and would not infringe on the privacy of any roommates of those being watched.
